Ten Commandments PIE CHART

Torah Commands Pie Chart, created by Shane Benson and posted at Facebook on 27 Jan 2016.

A Facebook friend by the name of Shane Benson posted this today, and I found it REALLY helpful.

A few years ago, I realized that Y’shua could not possibly have kept ALL of Torah, for the simple reason that ALL of Torah did not apply to Him!  He was not a woman, so He wouldn’t have been able to obey commands that specifically applied to women.  He was not a High Priest of the Levitical order (nor even a regular priest or Levite), so He could not obey the MANY commands pertaining to their duties.  He was not a farmer, so the agricultural commands would not have applied to Him.  He was not the ruling king at the time, so those commands did not apply to Him.  Etc., etc.  You get the idea.

What Y’shua could and DID do was follow every command that DID apply to Him, and He followed them out of love for the Father and love for people.  And that’s all He asks of us.  🙂

Here is Shane’s comment on his pie chart:

Have you ever heard someone say, “If you’re going to obey the law, then you have to obey them all.”, meaning all 613 commandments? Then to prove it, they quote James 2:10, “If you break one, then you’re guilty of breaking them all.

For the past few days I have been putting together this chart. I started in Exodus and read to the end of Deuteronomy. I wrote down different categories of people that some laws would apply to, such as women, men, kings, priests, farmers, etc. Every time I saw a law, statute, or commandment for any of these groups, I made a mark in the group.

After adding up all the marks, I converted it to a pie chart showing each group. As you can see, I highly doubt there would be a single person that would fit into every single category.

**Note**
Keep in mind that this pie chart is not 100% accurate. I say this because there are many commandments and laws that are repeated several times. When I came across a law that was already stated, I skipped over it, rather than counting it twice. (Remember that Deuteronomy is a repeat of events, spoken 40 years later)

This chart does not assume the total number is 613. From my own studying, that appears to be a man made number, as God, Moses, or anyone else ever gave such a number.

The point of this chart is not to negate the law, nor lead people away from it, but rather, I put this together to show that it is impossible for anyone to follow the ENTIRE law. Not even Moses could do it. Yeshua Himself could not even do it, as He was not a woman, nor married, nor fit some of the other categories. He simply obeyed what was applicable to Him, which is what we should be doing, and that is the point of this chart.
